Watercolor landscape painting for day 8

I am unconsciously choosing watercolor landscape for my 31 days of mini watercolor painting challenge and also including pine trees in most of them. Its funny! Isn’t it!

Watercolor landscape painting for day 8

For the day 8 of 31 days of mini watercolor painting challenge, I didn’t use any reference picture. I went by my instincts. If you are a beginner, it can be a little difficult for you to paint withyout using any reference. By some practice, you will get your hands on it.

If you want to learn to paint with watercolors, you can book an art date with me where we will paint watercolor sunset bookmark or watercolor galaxy bookmark or watercolor floral greeting card in one to one online video call session.

What you will need

  • 300 gsm cold pressed watercolor paper

  • watercolor brushes

  • watercolors

  • water

  • white gauche or white pen

  • masking tape(optional)

Watercolor landscape painting steps

Step 1:

first of all, if you are using a masking tape, stick it to all four sides of the paper. I haven’t used it because for this watercolor landscape painting, I wanted to paint it with some rough edges.

By using your brush, wet the paper and make sure there are no water lumps. You can remove water lumps using your bnrush.

Step 2:

Once your paper is fully wet, take Mauve color from your pallet or you can use any Purple color you have and start applying to the wet paper. Remember that we want darkest sky on the top and as you go down, use lightest tone of the color.

Step 3:

Let your paper dry but not too much, once it is about to dry, start applying clouds. For the clouds, add some Indigo to your Mauve. Paint your clouds wherever you want because as I always say, its your sky, paint it the way you want.

Once you completed painting your clouds, let your paper dry completely.

Step 4:

Let’s paint stars. My favourite part. There are two ways to paint stars. The first one is, load your brush with white gauche and splatter on the painting or use a white pen and draw tiny little circles all over your painting.

Once you have splatters the stars, it is time to paint the moon. It‘s your choice if you want to paint a full moon or half.

Step 5:

Using the Indigo color add some mountains in the bottom of your painting. Now, you can stop here if you want or you can add some pine trees.

And that’s it! You have painted a beautiful watercolor landscape.
